Music infuence

How does music influence my culture?
Depending on my culture I will listen to a certain type of music. Sometimes the things musicians  sing about can have an influence on how people who listen to their songs act. This means that when the actions of many people change then the culture will begin to change. An example could be in the 60s when the people started singing about love and peace which stared the hippie culture in America. This kind of event could happen in the present depending on what music do we listen to.

How does music influence my life?
Since music is a part of my everyday life it has an important effect on it. Depending on what music I listen to, my behavior might change. Music also affects my lifestyle and sometimes even my mood. The music I listen to makes part of a culture and its the same for everyone else. But music can also influence my life in a bad way. One way could be that it consumes a lot of my time when I could be doing homework instead. Music is a very important part of my life but I need to realize that there are more important things.

transcendentalism

Transcendentalism:  A philosophy based on the doctrine that the principles of reality are to be discovered by the study of the processes of thought, it emphasizes the intuitive and spiritual above the empirical.

Ralph Waldo Emerson:

  • He was a leader in the Transcendentalism movement in America. He  believed formal organized religion was too conventional and limiting. He asserted that the only way to true spirituality was through communion with nature and contemplation.
  •  A prodigy as a child, Emerson began his time at Harvard at the age of 14, making him the youngest boy in his clases.
  • Emerson's book on transcendentalism, Nature, was published anonymously. He did not want his name on the book because the topic was so controversial at the time of publication.
  • His circle of friends called Emerson "The Sage of Concord," because they considered him wise.
  • Emerson was both in favor of women's rights and opposed to slavery.
  • Emerson, who was known in his youth for his impressive intellect, lost his memory as he got older.
  •  He stopped appearing in public in 1879 and died three years later at his home in , Massachusetts.
